Meet the Man Behind the Magic
Leon Engelke, a winemaker with a deep-rooted passion for the craft, began his journey making wine to share with friends and family. As he discovered rare, old vine vineyards in the Bot River valley, Leon realised the potential to create truly unique wines.
With his philosophy of minimal intervention and letting the grapes speak for themselves, Leon’s winemaking is a testament to purity, tradition, and innovation.

Wine, Heritage, and Quality
The project is rooted in a philosophy of minimal intervention and respect for the natural expression of the vines. Our Chenin Blanc comes from vines that have weathered decades, adapting and thriving in the face of changing climates.
Each bottle is crafted with care, letting the vines tell their story through the wine. With a commitment to producing small batch, high quality wines, The Unicorn is a celebration of tradition and innovation in winemaking. Each vintage is a unique creation, produced in limited quantities and aimed at celebrating the rare and magical qualities of the grapes. The vineyard’s story guide the winemaking process.
